The maze is the first appearence to ever be seen in the Pac-Man series. The maze began as a classic level filled with adventure and later was expanded into more when the three-dimensional Pac-Man video games began to come into popularity. Now there are more three-dimensional mazes in Pac-Man.
Pac-Man

The original Pac-Man maze was very popular though it was plain and very simple in its appearence.

In the 1980's

In the 1980's, Pac-Man was very famous in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and Germany. The Pac-Man maze was very appealing from how it looked and was one of the first images of a video game to actually appear. Other game classics were Pong, Galaga, and other Atari video games, but Pac-Man was one of the best as it shows its popularity in so many countries.

Other renditions of the Maze

The Pac-Man maze was blue, but later showed different colors like in Ms.Pac-Man when the maze is pink and later becomes a very light blue and so on. Other remakes of the game, or more adventures make the maze yellow like in Pac & Pal or green like in Super Pac-Man. In the Pac-Man Collection game, you could select if you wanted to play scroll screen, so everything would show normal-size sprites but half the maze at a time, or full-screen, but it would be smaller and everything would be harder to see.

Atari's recreation of Pac-Man

In 1984, Atari made a remake of the game "Pac-Man". However, there was much criticism as the maze looked very different(ex. it was horizontal) and the Ghosts flickered.

Maze 256

In Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, the original Maze (called Maze 256) is an important location in the series. At the center of this giant hedge maze is the gateway into the Netherworld from which Ghosts go in and out. Pac-Man usually chases down Ghosts into the maze and finishes them off there and other times he travels to the center of the maze to enter the Netherworld whenever the situation warrants it.

Trivia

  • The Pac-Man maze may appear often in popular culture.
  • The maze has been referred to as both the Pac-Labyrinth and the Pac-Maze in certain games.
