Mario is a video game character made by Nintendo, and the star of the Mario franchise. Since his debut in 1981, he has appeared in hundreds of games (and other media), some of which have been alongside the Pac-Man cast.

Appearances alongside Pac-Man

Pac-Man Vs.

Mario's voice actor, Charles Martinet, narrates parts of the game in his traditional Mario accent. The game was also developed by Shigeru Miyamoto, the original creator of Mario (and Donkey Kong).

Mario Kart series

Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, and Blinky appear in Mario Kart Arcade GP 1 and 2 as playable racers, alongside two Pac-Man racetracks. The "rebooted" Pac-Man (Pacster) appears in Arcade GP DX.

Super Smash Bros. series

Both Pac-Man and Mario appear as fighters in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U (and subsequently, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate).

Pacman-mario-maker

Mario can dress up in a Pac-Man costume via the Mystery Mushroom. This was intended as a tie-in with the Pac-Man amiibo, but it can be unlocked without the amiibo as well.

Yoshi-pacman

Yoshi's Woolly World

By scanning a Pac-Man amiibo, a Pac-Man yarn pattern for Yoshi can be unlocked.

Film

Pac-Man and Mario have never had a direct film crossover. However, Pac-Man and Bowser appear in Wreck-It Ralph, and Pac-Man and Donkey Kong both appear in Pixels.

Trivia

  • One of the microgames in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$! bears a strong resemblance to Pac-Man, with Wario eating coins inside of a maze.
  • Buckner and Garcia's 1982 album "Pac-Man Fever" features a Donkey Kong-inspired track titled "Do the Donkey Kong".
