Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 is a maze game in the Pac-Man series, and is a direct sequel to Pac-Man Championship Edition, as well as an indirect follow up to Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. It was developed by Bandai Namco Studios and released in 2016 by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Gameplay[]

Ce2-1

Gameplay of the Adventure mode

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 builds upon the gameplay introduced in the Pac-Man Championship Edition and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. Taking control of Pac-Man, players go through various mazes collecting pellets while avoiding roaming ghosts Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde.

Collecting the required amount of Pac-Dots indicated by a meter on the bottom of the screen reveals either a bonus item that sends Pac-Man to the next maze segment (though in some cases, all Pac-Dots need to be eaten to proceed to the next maze; usually following a Power Pellet maze), or a Power Pellet that can be used to eat ghosts. Unlike previous iterations of Pac-Man, in which touching ghosts would instantly kill Pac-Man, ghosts and their Minions can now be bumped into up to three times (once in the Extreme mode) in succession before they enter an Angry state, during which touching them will cause Pac-Man to lose a life. The ghosts will jump into the air while entering their angry state, giving Pac-Man a chance to run. Across the mazes, Sleeping Minions will spawn in large amounts. Passing by Sleeping Minions will awaken the Minions and add them to a trail behind the other leader ghosts, allowing for large point bonuses when eaten. Minions merge into their leader ghosts when they enter their angry state, but return back to Ghost Train form when the leader ghost returns to normal. In this game, the ghosts must be eaten straight on from their leader, unlike Championship Edition DX where they could also be eaten from behind. By eating a leader ghost, Pac-Man will automatically chomp on each of the Minion ghosts; with each of the leader ghost's Minions scattering to the remaining leader ghosts, allowing for a gradual increase in points when each leader ghost and their Minions are eaten. These Minion ghosts will gradually group to a single leader; when eaten, it will trigger an "Airborne Gobblefest" where the Minion ghost train flies off the maze in a 3D perspective, with Pac-Man speeding through ghost chomping until he lands above the bonus fruit location. Though the leader ghosts move at extreme speeds, ghost trails will appear on the maze, indicating areas where the scared ghosts will attempt to flee. If Pac-Man takes too long to eat the leader ghosts, they will eventually slow down before the Power Pellet effects wear off; if all leader ghosts are not eaten by the time the Power Pellet effects run out, they will return to back to normal and all their Minion Ghosts will be discarded. Power Pellet effects can be renewed by eating Ghosts. The amount of leader ghosts appearing in a maze depend on the current maze segment (except in a course's Extreme mode, where all four leader ghosts are always present). Bombs (now known as Bomb Jumps) return in Championship Edition 2; albeit functioning differently: Bomb Jumps now return Pac-Man to the maze's center, letting him escape ghosts or quickly eat the bonus fruit/Power Pellet in the center. Bomb Jumps are earned by eating all the Pac-Dots in a maze. Pac-Man can hold up to 20 Bomb Jumps per game. In addition to Bomb Jumps, Pac-Man can break by pressing the Break button, allowing him to stop in place to avoid collision with the ghosts. Only ten bonus items appear in this version (as opposed to C.E. and C.E. DX's 22), which are the original 1980 Pac-Man fruits plus Bananas and Peaches. At every 1,000,000 points, a "1UP Pac-Man" appears near the center of the maze, which gives Pac-Man an extra life when eaten. The 1UP Pac-Man will disappear if it remains uncollected when Pac-Man advances to the next maze segment. 1UP Pac-Man will not appear in the Extreme mode of a Score Attack course.

In certain levels, the player can also use jump pads to jump over parts of a maze (a feature originating from Pac-Man Arrangement), with the landing points being indicated by a line. In the later maze segments, beginning after the second loop of bonus fruits, bonus fruits and Power Pellets will become enclosed in Runaway Bubbles, which will flee from Pac-Man when he approaches it. The Runaway Bubble moves slightly slower than Pac-Man, and doesn't turn midway through its path, allowing the player to plan out how to trap and capture the bubble.

The game ends when Pac-Man loses all his remaining lives or the course's time limit expires. If the latter occurs, the amount of extra lives and unused Bomb Jumps are added up for extra points. The player's final score is classified by a ranking system, ranging from the following from worst to best: E, D, C, B, A and S. The thresholds for each score rank differ between each course and their modes. Achieving higher ranks will unlock new courses and visual elements.

Scoring System[]

  • Pac-Dots:
    • 1 point.
      • The point count will increase by 1 point for every Pac-Dot eaten, gradually increasing until 500 points.
      • The point count will decrease by 100 points of the current point count if Pac-Man advances to the next maze without eating all the Pac-Dots. (ex: if the Pac-Dot count is at 325 points when the player eats the bonus fruit, the count will decrease to 225 points. If the number goes below zero, it will simply reset to 1 point.)
      • The point count will reset to 1 point if Pac-Man loses a life.
  • Bonus Fruits:
    • 1,000 points, added up by 1,000 points for each bonus fruit eaten (Cherries are 1,000 points, Strawberries are 2,000 points, and etc.)
  • Power Pellets: 150 points.
  • Ghosts:
    • Leader ghosts (Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde): 10,000 points, added up by 10,000 points for each leader ghost eaten (increasing to 20,000 points, 30,000 points and 40,000 points.)
    • Minion ghosts:
      • 100 points if eaten without following a leader ghost.
      • 100 points, added up by 100 points for each Minion ghost eaten in succession from a Ghost Train. Up to 6,000 points can be earned if a full train of Minion ghosts are eaten.
      • If a full Minion Ghost Train is eaten, a 76,500 point bonus is awarded after Pac-Man lands back in the maze.
  • After the course's time ends:
    • Unused extra lives: 10,000 points, added up by 10,000 points for each succeeding unused extra life.
    • Unused Bomb Jumps: 1,000 points, added up by 1,000 points for each succeeding unused Bomb Jump. Maxes out at 10,000 points.

Score Attack[]

The main game mode in Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, Score Attack has 10 different courses. Two courses are newly created for the game, while the remaining eight courses return from Pac-Man Championship Edition DX & Pac-Man Championship Edition in tweaked forms. Each course has 4 different modes: Single Train, Regular, Extreme, and Practice. Courses are unlocked by achieving a D rank or higher in respective courses. The regular gameplay mode, Score Attack is unlocked after finishing the first area in Tutorial. When unlocked, only the Single Train version of Championship II is available, but will expand as the player continues playing the proceeding courses.

Modes[]

  • In Single Train, only Blinky will appear as a leader ghost and can collect Minions. Pinky, Inky and Clyde are replaced by larger Minion ghosts that scatter around the maze as normal, and can be bumped into freely without harm, though they can slow Pac-Man down if grouped up. Single Train courses are unlocked after clearing the previous course’s Single Train, Regular or Extreme mode with a D rank or higher.
  • In Regular, all four leader ghosts (Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde) appear. Regular modes are unlocked after clearing a course's respective Single Train mode or by clearing the previous course's Regular mode with a D rank or higher.
  • In Extreme, all four leader ghosts will always be present regardless of the current maze. The leader ghosts will enter their angry state after bumping into them one time, in addition to bonus fruits and Power Pellets always being enclosed in Runaway Bubbles. Extra Pac-Men are not awarded in this mode, and the transition between maze segments always use the extended version (as seen in the transitions following a Power Pellet maze). Extreme modes are unlocked after clearing the course's respective Regular mode or completing the previous course's Extreme mode with a D rank or higher.
  • In Practice, the player can practice the Regular modes of maze courses for up to 10 minutes, with a starting supply of 99 lives and 99 Bomb Jumps. Practice modes are unlocked after clearing the course's respective Regular or Extreme mode with a D rank or higher.
    • Practice does not feature its own leaderboard or records high scores..

Courses[]

  • Championship II - The main maze course for Championship Edition 2. A redesigned, tweaked version of the original Championship maze with new paths and features.
  • Jumping - A new maze course with jump pads that will launch Pac-Man across the maze with a line showing where he will land.
  • Hexagon - A new maze course with hexagonal-like maze structures.
  • Highway - An open maze course with more warp zones on either sides.
  • Dungeon - A maze course with smaller corridors.
  • Mountain - A maze course featuring zig-zag patterns in the shape of a mountain.
  • Manhattan - A maze course named after the New York location, with pathways similar to real streets.
  • Junction - A maze course filled with intersections with the most warp zones on all sides.
  • Championship I - A maze course featuring the return of the original Pac-Man Championship Edition Championship Mode mazes, with Sleeping Minions.
  • Spiral - A maze course with large loop paths.

By completing all the courses in the Single Train, Regular and Extreme modes with a C rank or higher, a character visual based on Dig Dug is unlocked. In the Nintendo Switch version, this is changed to obtaining a C rank or higher in all Regular mode courses, while the Galaga character visual is unlocked by finishing every course in the Extreme mode with a B rank or higher. Music tracks are also unlocked by completing specified courses with a D rank or higher.

Leaderboards[]

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 features a global leaderboard feature, which showcases the scores of all players globally when connected to the internet. When a player finishes a course, their score is put up and ranked on the leaderboard. The scores shown depend on the game console/platform currently being played. If a player’s score makes it to the top 50 scores online, their replay of the game is uploaded online and can be viewed by others.

Tutorial[]

In the Tutorial mode, the player goes through 18 short courses separated in two areas explaining the basics and advanced tips on how to play the game. Each course awards 1 star, which is separated from the main game. The courses of each area go as follows:

  • Area 1, consisting of 11 courses:
    • 1-1: "Conditions for Clearing" explains the function of the Gauge and proceeding to other mazes.
    • 1-2: "Losing Lives, Making [Blinky] Angry", explaining how leader ghosts react and how a life is lost.
    • 1-3: "Making [Blinky] Angry (Part 2)", explaining how to avoid making ghosts enter their Angry state.
    • 1-4: "Dodge with Bomb Jumps", explaining the function of Bomb Jumps.
    • 1-5: "Bomb Jump Shortcuts", explaining how to use Bomb Jumps as shortcuts to save time.
    • 1-6: "[Sleeping Minions] and [Ghost Trains]", explaining the Minion Ghosts and how to gather them.'
    • 1-7: "[Power Pellets], [Frightened Ghosts] and Ghost Routes", explaining how to eat ghosts via the Ghost Routes.
    • 1-8: "Eating the Train Leader", explaining how to eat Ghost Trains.
    • 1-9: "Eat all the [Ghost Trains] in the maze!", explaining the process of eating multiple Ghost Trains.
    • 1-10: "Catching [Runaway Fruit]", explaining the function of Runaway Bubbles.
    • 1-11: "How to Fight Bosses", explaining how to clear boss courses, where the player is pitted against an easy fight against Giant Pinky.
  • Area 2, consisting of 7 extra courses:
    • 2-1: "The [Angry Ghost] Trick", explaining how to avoid an Angry Ghost while the ghost is in mid-air.
    • 2-2: "Braking", explaining how to use Pac-Man's break ability.
    • 2-3: "Cornering Techniques", explaining how to quickly turn past corners of the maze.
    • 2-4: "Getting More [Bombs]", explaining how to obtain more Bombs by eating all the Pac-Dots in a maze.
    • 2-5: "Score Big with Airborne Gobblefests", explaining how to trigger an Airborne Gobblefest from a Ghost Train.
    • 2-6: "Scoring with [Pac-Dots]", explaining the point value of Pac-Dots.
    • 2-7: "Getting a Perfect in Boss Battles", explaining the importance of getting more extra lives in the Adventure boss courses, where the player is pitted against an easy fight against Giant Blinky.

Completing the first area is required in order to unlock the main Score Attack game mode (this requirement is removed in Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus).

Adventure[]

New to Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 is an Adventure mode, which is unlocked after completing Score Attack's Dungeon course in the Regular mode with a D rank or higher (this mode is unlocked by default in Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus). There are three different objectives to fulfill across the mode's 70 courses before the time limit of each course expires. The player fails the Adventure course if they lose all their lives or the time limit expires before the objective is completed. The three goals throughout the courses consist of:

  • Eat a determined amount of apples to complete the course.
    • In this course objective, each maze segment has their own time limit counter.
    • The remaining Pac-Dots in the maze will disappear once the bonus fruit appears, though some Power Pellet mazes require Pac-Man to eat all the Pac-Dots in the maze in order to spawn the bonus fruit (there are exceptions where Pac-Man can finish some mazes without eating all the Pac-Dots).
    • Eating Minion Ghost Trains in this course objective will temporarily freeze the time limit counter for the duration of the eating scene.
    • The score counter is replaced by a timer, but still spawns 1UP Pac-Man for every 1,000,000 points scored.
  • Achieve a total score of 5,000,000 points to complete the course.
    • Similar to the Score Attack mode, the time limit counter will not freeze during Minion Ghost Train chomping. If the time limit expires during a chomping Minion Ghost Train, the game will end prematurely unlike the Score Attack mode, and will also end prematurely upon reaching 5,000,000 points.
    • This course objective only appears in Area 6.
  • The boss course, which involves Pac-Man attempting to clear each maze as quickly as possible while gathering as many extra lives as he can in order to defeat the giant boss ghost scattering in the background.
    • When the bonus fruit appears, the giant ghost will headbutt the maze, causing the leader ghosts to enter their angry state until Pac-Man advances to the next maze by eating the bonus fruit. If Pac-Man doesn't eat the bonus fruit before the time limit expires, the giant ghost will destroy the maze, resulting in a game failure. After the giant ghost headbutts the maze, two 1UP Pac-Men appear in the maze; these should be grabbed before proceeding to the next maze in order to fulfill the objectives. The last maze will feature a Super Pellet, which allows Pac-Man to shatter the giant ghost, calling in on all of Pac-Man's remaining extra lives to chomp on all the fleeing ghosts, clearing the boss course.
    • If the maximum extra lives threshold to receive all the stars isn't met, a group of surviving ghosts will flee in the distance, giving the Pac-Men shocked faces; encouraging the player to try again to obtain the last objective.
    • Because of the lack of difficulty options in the boss courses, stars are instead awarded by fulfilling the three objectives listed in the course. 2 stars are awarded for finishing the course, 4 stars are awarded for finishing the course with an average supply of extra Pac-Man lives and 6 stars are awarded for finishing the course with a large supply of extra Pac-Man lives.
      • Boss courses award the most amount of stars from any stage in Adventure.
    • The maze appearance options cannot be changed in the boss courses.

There are Normal, Hard, and Pro difficulty levels in each course - harder difficulties reduce the amount of extra lives, bombs and time the player has in order to complete the course, but award the player with more stars (Normal awards 1 star, Hard awards 2 and Pro awards 3). The amount of starting lives, bombs and time differ per course. There is an additional Practice difficulty for each course, which awards no stars but offers the maximum amount of time, lives and bombs per course. Certain amounts of Stars are necessary to unlock the boss courses.

Adventure's 70 courses are split into 6 areas, with each area containing 11 courses (10 regular and one boss course, except in Area 6; containing 15 courses: 14 regular courses and the final boss course). Pac-Man faces Giant Clyde, Inky, Pinky, Blinky and an angry platinum-colored ghost with all four ghosts circling around in each of the six areas (with the latter appearing in both areas 5 and 6) in the boss courses. Once the boss course of an area is unlocked, the area succeeding said area is unlocked, regardless if all the courses in the prior area have been completed or not.

Acquiring 222 stars are necessary in order to unlock Adventure's final course, 6-15; which can only be achieved by finishing every course in the Pro difficulty and by fulfilling all the boss course objectives. Finishing the final course will unlock a special character theme based on Galaga (in the original version).

Achievements[]

There are 18 achievements in total, which are achieved by playing through Tutorial, Score Attack and Adventure. Due to the lack of a native achievement system in the Nintendo Switch, achievements are not present in Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus.

Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus[]

A special version of Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus was released for Nintendo Switch on February 22, 2018. It was later included physically alongside Namco Museum in the physical release bundle Namco Museum Arcade Pac, which released on December 8, 2018. This version of the game features tweaks to the regular Championship Edition 2 game in addition to a new two-player mode.

Plus 2P[]

In addition to the regular Championship Edition 2 game, the Nintendo Switch version adds a cooperative two-player mode separated from the main game, known as Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus 2P, shortened simply to Plus 2P.

Like the regular Championship Edition 2, both players must attempt to score as many points as possible before the time limit runs out. There are two different game play styles:

  • In the single player mode Solo Play, where the player controls the yellow Pac-Man while the cyan Pac-Man is controlled by the computer. The CPU-controlled Pac-Man will automatically pursue any Pac-Dots and push scared ghosts in the maze, and will approach Pac-Man to sandwich the bonus fruit capsules. If the player touches the CPU Pac-Man during Power Pellet effects or while in the boss maze, the CPU Pac-Man will latch onto the player's Pac-Man and follow him until they touch a scared ghost.
  • In the two player mode Pair Play, Player 1 controls the yellow Pac-Man, while Player 2 controls the cyan Pac-Man.
Pacmance2plus screen 2p

Gameplay of the Plus 2P mode

Following a structure more similar to Championship Edition and Championship Edition DX, both Pac-Men traverse the maze in order to eat all the Pac-Dots in the maze. The yellow Pac-Man will always travel faster than the cyan Pac-Man. When all the Pac-Dots are eaten, each Pac-Man will obtain a bonus fruit enclosed in a capsule, which must be popped by having both Pac-Men "sandwich" the capsules, popping them and allowing them to be eaten, allowing progression to the next maze. As the players progress through mazes, the game speed gradually increases. Unlike the regular Championship Edition 2 game, only 3 Bombs can be held at once, and Pac-Man cannot break in place. A bomb is awarded upon entering the next maze.

Unlike Championship Edition 2, Ghosts behave like they did in classic Pac-Man titles; they will hurt Pac-Man if they are touched once, resulting the player losing a life instantly in the Solo Play mode. If a ghost catches a Pac-Man in the Pair Play mode, the other must attempt to save the other Pac-Man by repeatedly colliding with him before the timer runs out. Successfully freeing the captured Pac-Man will send the ghost back to the ghost house. Ghosts will slow down if a Pac-Man approaches them, giving them a chance to escape, similar to Championship Edition DX. Minions that are awakened by either Pac-Man will group to a separate teal-colored Leader Minion Ghost. The Leader Minion Ghost will become angry and rainbow-colored when enough Minions are awakened and flame-colored when it reaches maximum length, with the leader Minion ghost moving faster than the others. Bumping into the Minion ghost train enough times will send them back to the ghost house (or to the top corners when under Power Pellet effects). When the Pac-Men eat Power Pellets, the Pac-Men must bump the regular ghosts towards the ghost route line and "sandwich" the ghosts by eating them from both sides, like the bonus fruits. The Leader Minion Ghost must be eaten by having one Pac-Man stop its movement from the front, and the other Pac-Man begin eating from the Ghost Train's tail. If the Leader Minion Ghost is flare-colored, eating the Ghost Train will initiate an Airborne Gobblefest. Using a bomb while near the Leader Minion Ghost will send it back to the ghost house instead of returning to the spawn point.

Beginning around the four minute mark, the game will shift to boss mazes, which involves both Pac-Men eating Pac-Dots in order to defeat the giant ghost. Both Pac-Men travel around gravity-altering mazes, in which the Pac-Men can jump by using the Jump button in order to cling onto other walls. By jumping, Pac-Man will also widen his chomping radius during instances where there are a grand number of Pac-Dots suspended in the air. The boss ghost will move slowly across the board chasing both Pac-Men. If a Pac-Man touches a boss ghost while its not scared, the players will lose a half of their current extra life, reducing its point value in the final score tally (the full life will be lost if second half of that life is lost). When all the Pac-Dots are cleared, the boss ghost will become angry and begins moving faster. When any Pac-Man eats the Power Pellet popped from the Winged Power Pellet Capsules, the boss ghost will become scared, allowing both Pac-Men to attack the boss ghost to defeat it. By holding the Jump button while near the boss ghost, Pac-Man can perform a Combo Slam which lets him deal damage to the boss ghost's health gauge. As Pac-Man damages the boss ghost, multiple frightened Minion ghosts will spawn, which can be eaten without slowing down. When the boss ghost's health gauge is fully depleted, the ghost will begin shaking in the center, in which either Pac-Man must land a repeated ending blow to destroy it. All frightened minion ghosts will be destroyed upon the boss ghost's defeat. If a giant boss Blinky is defeated, the Pac-Men will go airborne and chomp on the fleeing Minion ghosts spinning across the maze, granting a point bonus. The next boss ghost will appear when the bonus fruit popped from the Winged Fruit Capsule is eaten. The giant ghost can be stunned by using a bomb, which sends the boss off screen for a short while; allowing both Pac-Men to freely eat all the Pac-Dots in the maze.

The game ends when the time limit expires or there are no more extra lives by the time both players lost their lives.

Each course has 3 difficulty options:

  • The Normal difficulty starts with 5 lives, 2 starting bombs and the slowest starting speed.
  • The Hard difficulty starts with 4 lives, 1 starting bomb and an average starting speed.
  • The Very Hard difficulty starts with 4 lives, 1 starting bomb and the fastest starting speed.

Courses in Plus 2P[]

There are 6 different courses in the Plus 2P mode. The sixth course, consisting of boss rushes against the giant ghosts, is unlocked after completing the prior five courses. Unlike Championship Edition 2, score ranking is not prominent and is only shown with an internet connection. The six courses consist of:

  • Championship+2P: A new maze course designed for 2 player co-operation.
  • Jumping+2P: A maze course based on Championship Edition 2's Jumping maze course.
  • Junction+2P: A maze course based on Championship Edition DX's Junction maze course.
  • Mountain+2P: A maze course based on Championship Edition 2's Mountain maze course.
  • Original CE+2P: A maze course based on the original Pac-Man Championship Edition's Championship Mode maze course.
  • Boss Rush: A maze course that begins with the giant ghost battle phase of the game instantly following the completion of the first maze. This course is unlocked after finishing all prior courses once.

Scoring System in Plus 2P[]

The scoring system in the Plus 2P mode differs from the regular Championship Edition 2 game.

  • Pac-Dots:
    • 1 point.
      • The point count will increase by 1 point for every Pac-Dot eaten, gradually increasing until 500 points.
      • The point count will reset to 1 point if either Pac-Man loses a life.
  • Bonus Fruits:
    • 1,000 points, added up by 1,000 points for each bonus fruit eaten (Cherries are 1,000 points, Strawberries are 2,000 points, and etc.)
  • Power Pellet: 1,000 points
  • Ghosts:
    • 10,000 points, added by an extra 10,000 points for each ghost chomped in succession (20,000 points, followed by 30,000 and 40,000 points afterwards).
  • Minion ghosts:
    • 130 points when eaten alone, added by 10 points for each solo Minion ghost eaten in succession.
    • 100 points when eaten from a ghost train, added up by 100 points for each Minion ghost eaten in succession.
    • 100 points if eaten from a frightened boss ghost, added by 100 points if eaten in succession. This event also occurs when the Pac-Men begin chomping on the fleeing Minion ghosts after defeating a giant boss Blinky.
    • If a full flare-colored ghost train is eaten, a 76,500 point bonus is awarded at the end of a ghost train.
  • Boss ghost: 10,000 points.
    • Added by 10,000 points for each boss ghost destroyed.
  • After the course's time ends:
    • Unused extra lives: 10,000 points, added up by 10,000 points for each succeeding unused extra life.
      • 5,000 points for a half-damaged extra life.
    • Unused Bombs: 20,000 points, added up by 20,000 points for each succeeding unused Bomb. Due to the limit of holding 3 bombs, a maximum total of 120,000 points are awarded if the player has a full stock of unused bombs at the end of the course.

Changes to Pac-Man Championship Edition 2[]

In addition to the Plus 2P mode, a few additional quality-of-life changes have been made to the regular Championship Edition 2 game, mostly reducing the difficulty to unlock courses and adding visual options from the Plus 2P mode.

  • The game has a new starting title screen, separating the original game and Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus 2P in a game select menu.
  • Due to the lack of a native achievements system in the Nintendo Switch, achievements are absent in this version of the game.
  • Score Attack and Adventure are unlocked by default and no longer requires the player to finish the first area in Tutorial and the Dungeon course in Score Attack respectively.
  • The Regular and Single Train modes of every course in Score Attack are now unlocked by default, as opposed to playing a course to unlock the next one.
  • Additional visual options have been added to the menu:
    • New grid menus have been added for changing character visuals, mazes and background visualizers.
    • New backgrounds are added.
    • New music tracks have been added.
    • The visual rhythmic color-changing and flashing Pac-Dots in the Plus 2P mode have been added as a toggleable option in the regular Championship Edition 2 game. The flashing effects can be turned off by selecting the "standard" version of the option.
    • Alternate colors for mazes have been grouped into separate menus for each respective maze theme.
    • The character visual previews have been modified to show Pac-Man along with the ghosts.
  • The requirements for unlocking the special Namco character visuals have been changed, reducing the difficulty to unlock the character visuals:
    • The Dig Dug character visual is now unlocked by clearing all Score Attack courses in the Regular mode with a C rank or higher, as opposed to finishing every course in the Single Train, Regular and Extreme modes with a C rank or higher.
    • The Galaga character visual is now unlocked by clearing all Score Attack courses in the Extreme mode with a B rank or higher, as opposed to fully completing Adventure.
  • Some of the background animations were changed and feature less animated contents and lower resolution to condone for the Nintendo Switch's lower performance.

  • Similar to Pac-Man Championship Edition DX, Championship Edition 2 features themes based on older Pac-Man and Namco games, including the original Pac-Man Championship Edition, the original Pac-Man, Pac-Mania, Galaga and Dig Dug.
    • The latter two are presented as unlockable character visuals.
  • Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 features the themes from Pac-Man Championship Edition and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX for use during gameplay.
  • The "Babylonian Rhapsody" theme featured in Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus features remixes of various themes from The Tower of Druaga.
  • The "Pac Sky Emotion" theme in Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 Plus was temporarily used as the arena theme for Tekken 7 in 2020, in celebration of Pac-Man's 40th Anniversary.
  • Unlike previous Pac-Man Championship Edition games, this is the first game in the Championship Edition series to use real time rendered-3D graphics for the characters and mazes.
